4-H is a youth organization committed to building outstanding leaders with marketable skills to succeed in today’s global society. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
What is 4-H?
4-H Youth Development is part of Kentucky Cooperative Extension. Extension’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of Kentucky citizens through non-formal education for the entire family. Extension agents and volunteers take the results of university research and explain it in such a way that different age groups can learn and apply the information to their own lives. Kentucky 4-H believes in providing positive youth development experiences that all youth to experience belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.

4-H Programs
2024 4-H Camp will be June 11-14. We will be camping with Adair, Green, Marion County's.
The forms can be picked up at the Wayne County Extension Office or printed by clicking the button below. All paperwork must be turned in before campers will be accepted. We will begin accepting applications on March 1, 2024
Cooking Club meets monthly for grades 4 - 12. Open Enrollment begins each program year in September and ends in May. There is a limit on participants, flyers are sent to school at the beginning of each school year to let students know it's time to sign up.

Join our Clover kids! Ages are 5-8 or kindergarten through the 3rd grade. Open Enrollment begins each program year in September and ends in May. There is a limit on participants, flyers are sent to school at the beginning of each school year to let students know it's time to sign up.

Join our 4-H art club! Grades are 3rd thru 8th, students will make a variety of projects that can be entered in the county fair. Open Enrollment begins each program year in September and ends in May. There is a limit on participants, flyers are sent to school at the beginning of each school year to let students know it's time to sign up.
Our 4-H ambassadors are considered representatives of the Wayne County 4-H program. Exemplary leadership and teamwork skills, as well as having a strong commitment to 4-H, are characteristics of this group. All applicants must be enrolled in grades 6 - 12, the program starts in September and runs thru August of each program year. Deadline to apply is August 16, 2024.
The 4-H program enters the local school systems to teach different areas of 4-H such as (SET) science, engineering, and technology; money management and natural resources, health, etc.
JAG provides workforce preparation to high school students. 4-H provides supplemental activities/lessons to help students excel in future workforce endeavors. One area 4-H has provided training is in mock interviews, which allow students to participate in real interviews with local businesses which then provide feedback to the students to improve their interview skills.

The 4-H written communication contest is for any youth age 9 (as of January 1st, 2025) to 18. The deadline for submission is January 24, 2025 at 4:30 pm. For more information click the link below.

4-H Middle School Leadership Conference is March 16 - 18, 2023 with the deadline to register on March 3, 2023. The cost is $100.00 and applications can be picked up at the Extension Office or here on our website. For more information please click the link below.

The 4-H speech and demonstration contest is for any youth age 9 (as of January 1st, 2025) to 18. The deadline for the speech contest is April 18th, 2025 with the contest being held on April 22nd, 2025. For more information click the link below.
How does 4-H benefit youth?
4-H’ers, regardless of their background, socio-economic status, race or gender, benefit from their participation in Kentucky 4-H. Positive youth development studies have affirmed that compared to other youth, young people involved in 4-H are:
- Four times more likely to contribute to their communities.
- Two times more likely to be civically active.
- Two times more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices.
- Two times more likely to participate in Science, Engineering and Computer Technology programs during out-of-school time.
- 4-H girls are two times more likely (Grade 10) and nearly three times more likely (Grade 12) to take part in science programs compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities.
